This album is dedicated to my dad, Mike Brown 5/30/1950 - 8/1/2022

More on the album: The holidays can be complicated. They can be a time of great joy and togetherness and they can also amplify deep sadness and grief. For this record, I wanted to tap into joy and bring out what that means for me in each of these songs. You can find children singing and laughing on Jingle Bells, the sound of rain on silent night (it was pouring when I was trying to record so I embraced it), gentle sounds and use of space in Away In A Manger…and you’ll find one original song towards the end of the album called “Are You Sad At Christmas Time?” which is a journey through the mundane (“make a list and check it twice”), acknowledging the sadness and grief I (and so many of us) carry. The album art is an old photo of my dad on Christmas morning when he was a child. Creating this album has been such a helpful tool for me to process my first holiday season without him.
This album is for anyone needing to tap into joy this season. May these songs provide warmth and hold you in hope. Merry Christmas!
